PODCAST: BEFORE I WAS A RECRUITER I WORKED IN A LEMONADE FACTORY

What was your first job? It may be a good conversation starter for someone you've met at a bar or a networking event, but it's not legitimate to predict performance, and so should never be employed as a means to assess a candidate in a job interview. Please don't.

However, I don't mind being asked that question by Adrian Tan.

Adrian and I have known each other for ages. We met on the speaker circuit in Singapore where he's often seen MC'ing and hosting Recruiting or HR events.

I recently joined Adrian for a podcast. I shared with him my disdain for the term "HR", my childhood ambitions, my passions, career highlights, and other self indulgent musings.

There's a shout out to Dr. John Sullivan, a recruitment maven who really inspires me. You can find out more about him here.

My book recommendations on this podcast include Martin Fords' "Rise of the Robots". This is the third book I've read on the inevitable end of capitalism. Martin's book is thoughtful, well-researched, powerful and alarming.

My product recommendations are Textio and Canva. Textio is an augmented writing platform which can help you to deliver legible, attractive, bias-free advertising copy to help you recruit. Canva is makes design simple for everyone who has a need to quickly create visually stunning graphics and instantly size them for posting across any media.

My app recommendations are IFTTT and Zapier. These are both fantastic ways to introduce automation and hacks to your personal and professional life.

Thanks again to Adrian for featuring me. You can read more of his writing on Talent Management and HR Tech over here at http://adriantan.com.sg/
